 Firefox 'porn mode' finally to match competition
Coming soon to a Firefox near you: opening a link directly into a new private-browsing window.
Big changes to Firefox's "porn mode" -- the private-browsing feature that turns off recording cookies, history, and temporary files -- landed today in the Firefox Nightly build.
When it reaches the general public a few months from now in Firefox stable, the feature will allow you to run the private-browsing feature in a new window, without closing your regular instance of Firefox. This pulls the browser up to parity with Chrome, Internet Explorer, and Opera. Safari doesn't open private browsing into a separate window.
Firefox's project manager, Asa Dotzler, stated in the blog post announcing the changes that the update was no mere code change but took 19 months of planning because they "redesigned the existing private-browsing mode from scratch."

Former Microsoft exec to launch high-end pot business
A world away from software, a former Microsoft manager says he intends to launch a premium marijuana business in Washington.
According to Kiro TV, James Shively will be making the most of a bill that recently legalized the possession and distribution of pot by building a premium pot service in the state of Washington.
The report says that plans for the business have already been hashed out, and Shively will spend the next year researching his retail marijuana enterprise, which he hopes will eventually bring legitimacy to the sale of cannabis.
The product won’t be cheap, according to the former Microsoft executive, who says premium pot should be similar to a “fine congnac, a fine brandy, [or] a fine cigar,” and is “something to be savoured by responsible adults.”

Glasses-Free 3D Comes Closer to Reality
" A group of South Korean researchers put forth a new technique for enabling moviegoers to watch 3D movies without the need to wear glasses or other devices. "
“Watching 3D movies generally means suffering through two things: crappy plotlines that favor spectacle over substance and the need to wear some annoying, dorky glasses,” Adam Mann wrote for Wired.com, giving voice to a frustration felt by consumers that want to watch 3D content — but find the viewing experience ergonomically exhausting — a feeling which is compounded by the often lackluster quality of many offerings.

Furries Pounce on Offbeatr, the ‘Kickstarter for Porn’
Back in August, we told you about Offbeatr, which aims to be the Kickstarter for porn. Four months in, the site boasts five successful projects, which have raised a total of $60,934. And as the blog Flayrah recently noticed, all of them are furry-themed.
Furries, for those of you who’ve never traversed the deep Internets, are into anthropomorphized depictions of animals. They also like to dress up as animals and, like most fandoms, gather IRL at conventions. The whole deal often has a sexual overtone, which is where Offbeatr comes in.
